Language expresses and reinforces organisational culture, influences the perceptions and personal identity of those working within the enterprise, and creates boundaries for acceptable behaviour. Last year I heard many phrases that were shaping my clients' workplace cultures and sub-cultures. I kept a list of them in my Reflective Journal. Here are my top 10 examples of the good ones... Emotional triggers are based on unmet social needs. From the time you were born, you repeated behaviour that brought you positive attention, love, and/or safety. Unconscious behaviours brought forward from childhood, however, might not reflect those required of us as professional leaders in adulthood. This blog explores what happens when those emotions get in the way and what you can do to manage them. According to Gallup's 2023 report, the percentage of worldwide employees who are actively engaged with the work they do is still only 23 percent. That's a lot of people filling a seat and watching the clock! In this blog, I reflect on Maslow's theory explaining human motivation based on the pursuit of different levels of needs.
